We are to judge

For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? … 1 Corinthians 5:12

Looking further and indepth into 1 Corinthians has given me interestingly new insight on a number of previously grey and morally ambiguous lines that I thought the bible had.

Now, the bible says that we are to judge those inside the church?

What I don’t think it’s saying is that we may now adopt a holier than thou attitude towards out Christian brethren, judging them for the sins that they are committing and yet turning a blind eye to what the world is doing in front of our faces.

What I think it is saying is not so much a drawing of, but rather a neutralising of contrasts. We are not to ‘judge’ our own brothers in the same way that we are not to ‘judge’ our non-Christian friends. However, when it comes to sin that happens in the church, we are to keep each other in line - watch out and stay accountable for each other, making sure we’re presenting a united front of Love that springs from a repentant heart. A person set apart from this world for God.
