Responsible Love

When you really matter to someone, that person will always make time for you. No excuses, no lies, no broken promises.

As much as I am an idealist, I’ve learned to add realist parameters to the ideals that I hold. One of them involves inane, idealistic bullshit like the one above. Do you know why I think the above is stupid?

It’s selfish.

Think about it, if you really matter to someone, yes, you would make time for them. Fine. Aside from the fact that the human nature is tuned to do anything and everything to keep what we have (including excuses, lies and promises you know you cannot keep), you’ll also realise that in an ideal world, the reverse is true - When you matter to someone, that person will understand when you cannot always be with them, no matter how much they really want to.

Relationships are a push-pull tandem of give and take, and it’s bullshit like this that’s ruining relationships today.
