The Season to be humble
Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed… 1 Corinthians 5:7
The passover was a time of great anticipation - the Israelite slaves were for the most part spared from the terrible plagues that was ongoing in Egypt, and everyone knew someone thing was up, something was going to happen. Then Moses gave the word for a ‘feast’ - the passover.
The very mention of Christ here refers to the Corinthians that this is a season they need to take note of - there is death in the air constantly around them (and us!), and removing the leaven of sin from the bread is the next step to completing the metaphor.
Removing the leaven, however, is not an easy task.
In fact, it is a task that can only be done by the divine.
This verse is a call to repentance, to submission to Christ, that we may be presented as holy and without leaven at the end of days.
