And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God… 1 Corinthians 6:11
No sinner enters into heaven - but you were washed, sanctified and justified.
So why have we sullied ourselves once again?
And the man who preaches the Cross must be a crucified man. You may preach the Cross and it is nothing but a Roman gibbet unless you preach it from yourself. It is the crucified man that can preach the Cross. Said Thomas “Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails … I will not believe.” Dr. Parker of London said that what Thomas said of Christ, the world is saying about the Church. And the world is saying to every preacher: Unless I see in your hands the print of the nails I will not believe. It is true. It is the man who is at the end of himself, who has got to the end of reputation, and the end of earthly ambition, the man who has died with Christ, he it is that can preach the Cross of Christ. — G. nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:10
This is part 2 of the earlier rant, aimed at the Corinthians who have, so far, been very high and mighty about their theological knowledge yet have been using it and the ways of the world to settle petty arguments between them. It’s basic thrust (and I can only go so far before the punchline in the next verse) is that you will not find any of these people in the waiting list for heaven. Coupled with the new covenant, this means, very basically that
“None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
“Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”Romans 3:10-18
